Book pages

My friend Judy sent me some lovely deep pink velvet ribbon in a parcel of goodies before Christmas, and i just want to show her what I have done with it. The ribbon was just perfect for a surround for this.  I have pinned it onto some blue wool, and now it is ready to become a cover for a journal...if and when I will find the right size book.  So I wanted Judy to see what I had used it for, and to show her ET as she had not seen it.

Some may remember this embroidery which I nicknamed ET....cant you just see the big "eyes" it turned out that way purely by accident.  This cover is for a journal of some of the general embroideries I have done over the years.

I have also made a page from my buttonhole stitch sampler.  I placed the sampler and the and the edgings diagonally on the page, and added some more samples of the buttonhole stitch.  I also used some more of the threads that Judy sent me...see the golden yellow on the length of blue ribbon.

The blue edgings are from the stash of laces I received from my neighbour.

  3. What a fun wee piece you've made for your journal cover! The spirals remind me of fiddle-head ferns as they sprout in the spring. Only when you mentioned your nickname for the piece did I see the resemblance -- and you're quite right! :-)

  8. Hi Shirley, thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a nice comment. Your journal cover is fabulous! Love all the different stitches you used plus it's so beautifully colourful. Like all your variations on the buttonhole stitch especially your cat and butterfly. Looking forward to seeing what you'll do with this weeks feather stitch :)

  9. Shirley, ET is an amazing piece of embroidery. I never tire of seeing it. Your sense of colour is so exciting, I wish I could be as brave. The use of the velvet ribbon seems a perfect plan to me. Love your buttonhole samples too. You always have such fun with these projects.

  10. As always, delightful.
I love the cover and the sampler page is great - now I'll be wishing I'd started a book this time instead of what I can already see, after only three stitches, is going to be a very l...o...n...g thing!
On the other hand I don't really know how to make a book - (we all have our limitations, though I don't think you have!) Connie.
