Rotten Weather

It is raining cats and dogs here, has been all night.   I have debris from the damn gum tree on my fence and patio.  The wind is getting close to cyclonic.   The electronic gates refuse to open into the complex.....brrrr.    What a climate of wild extremes we have here.

Before the rains came I took a photo of a stunning cactus flower that bloomed in one of my pots.   I dont know the name of it but the ants must like the nectar because they were all over it.

The branches that are coming down from the gum tree at this stage are only small, but gum trees are notorious for dropping larger ones and also falling over so keeping my fingers crossed that the storm passes before that happens.

Just as well there did not come down on the roof
This is taken through the window with the rain distorting the pic.

This is the offending gate that has us locked in. There is no battery backup on it which needs to be fixed.
The people who have just moved into the front flat have visitors for the weekend and one of them has his car parked inside the fence behind their garage so hope he does not want to leave to go home any time soon.   None of the tenants will be able to get out to go to work on Tuesday either.   There is a small gate to get out of provided the keys work in that which they often don't.
At a time like this I am glad I only have my own two feet to rely on.

Off to the front lounge room to watch some tv.  If only this weather could go to where the bushfires are down south.

Hope everyone is having a nice and safe weekend.

  1. sounds really bad with you Shirley. Here it has been the snow, yesterday morning I measured what had fallen and added to what was already there and it was 9" deep, last night lots of rain and this morning most of it has gone, parts of England are now on flood alert as snow thawing too quickly! so we are going to have a few days of milder weather, 45 degrees at the moment.

Trust those gates get fixed quickly, tuesday seems a long time to me.Fingers crossed your gum tree remains standing, I have 2 in the garden, one worries me as over the hedge is next door`s greenhouse and I worry it could fall but he says to leave it alone it will be fine!!

  2. I have been wondering how you are faring Shirley, those gates sound like a worry to me. You must be glad you are not still at Rainbow Beach, I imagine it has taken a pounding. We were very lucky, it passed over us quite quickly and not too much wind. Stay safe. Cheers

  4. All this dreadful weather !! It is no other in Europe. Only at the Mediterranean there is some sun. But where is this for us in the middle??
Your fence might be an annoyance but nobody will come in either. So you are safe. By the way, I like how it is painted and I wish ours in France would be looking like this already. Shirley, send me a photo of a leaf of your gum tree - I wonder if it is the same as our gumtrees, which people keep in the livingrooms

  10. The weather has been wild hasn't it, I do hope that things will return to a calmer normal and that floods don't return to our state any time soon. Glad to hear that you are safe. I hope the gate was fixed so everyone could get out. x
